Medical Director

The California Prevention Training Center (CAPTC) is a multidisciplinary training/technical assistance center funded by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to educate clinicians and public health professionals on sexually transmitted infections (STI) and HIV prevention. We are currently seeking applications from current UCSF faculty for a medical director position (20-30% FTE) to oversee the activities of our clinical program.

Duties include:

  • Supervise the activities of the clinical program manager, who is responsible for conducting needs assessments, program evaluation, and delivering training in accordance with grant requirements.
  • Provide oversight to CAPTC clinical faculty serving on the STD Clinical Consultation Network warmline which responds to complex questions related to STI management.
  • Review job aids, guidelines, curricula and online/written content for clinical and scientific accuracy.
  • Review content for Continuing Medical Education eligibility.
  • Oversee and assist with grant writing activities, progress reports, and response to technical reviews.
  • Deliver virtual and in-person trainings on STIs and HIV prevention to healthcare providers and public health staff.
  • Attend weekly check-in meetings, CAPTC all-staff meetings, and other meetings upon request.

Since 1989, the California Prevention Training Center (CAPTC) has been funded by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to deliver high-quality, state-of-the-art training and technical assistance to health professionals and health care organizations related to STI prevention, diagnosis, and treatment. CAPTC has established an innovative, cost-effective training and technical assistance center with expertise in training providers (clinical PTC), providing training and capacity building to CDC-funded STI programs (NQIC), training disease investigation specialists (DISTC), and building health department capacity (CBA). CAPTC is a part of the UCSF Department of OB/Gyn & RS, SFGH Division, and has faculty with national-level expertise in STIs and HIV.
